When Tom sprains his ankle, Louise and Helen coerce George into dressing up as Santa down at the Help Center. One kid says he's never seen a black Santa. Another, Billy, doesn't believe in Santa and thus states it doesn't matter what color he is. George gets carried away with holiday cheer and his Santa role and promises all the kids that they will get "anything" they want for Christmas. Billy specifically requests parents.
George is determined to fulfill his promise to Billy and find him a family. But Mrs. Thompson thinks it's impossible, due to Billy's age (10).
Florence then tells Louise Mrs. Thompson found the perfect family for Billy. However, Mrs. Thompson later tells Louise that the couple decided Billy was too old for them. George feels guilty and decides not to go to the Help Center as Santa. After Florence calls him a coward, he changes his mind. He has a chat with Billy and points out that as the oldest kid at the Help Center, he has a family, as the younger kids look up to him. Louise declares George a wonderful Santa.
