"Blue's Big Holiday" is the first holiday-themed episode of the Nick Jr. hybrid series Blue's Clues, produced and aired in its third season.
Synopsis[]
Steve invites the viewers into the house for the holidays. They get the fireplace going and the viewers get a look at their holiday quilt. Every year they add new memory patches. There's a holiday patch of Steve when he was younger standing next to his grandmother. There's also one of the day Paprika was born. Mr. Salt, Mrs. Pepper, and Paprika see it. Mr. Salt goes, "Ahh, what a day that was." Steve and Blue have to add new patches. Blue has something she wants to add to their holiday quilt and that's when they decide to play a holiday game of Blue's Clues. After Steve wipes the pawprint off the screen using a yellow piece of fabric, the pawprint gets stuck on it. Steve thought the pawprint wanted to be added to the holiday quilt. He decides to do that later.
Steve goes to Sidetable Drawer and gets his notebook. But it's not just any regular notebook. It's a holiday notebook. When shaken, it sounds like holiday bells. Steve and Blue are ready to play their holiday game of Blue's Clues. Tickety Tock and Slippery Soap are giving a present to Mailbox. Steve tells the viewers that it's a flag warmer. Then, he notices that there's a clue on a card with four little pawprints. He draws the first one in his notebook. But he doesn't have more information. He and Blue have a look at their snow globe. They skidoo into it. Steve notices that they're in Toyland. A holiday train comes down the track and some toys complain. First, there's a doll who thinks nobody wants her as a present because she is different. The reason is that her dress is orange instead of green. Steve compliments her saying that it is unique and thinks that maybe Orange Kitten would like her as a present. He gets out a holiday bag and she jumps into it. Next, there are some towers of blocks. But for some reason, something is wrong with the green one. He also feels a little sad because he is different. The reason is that he keeps falling down. He builds up and then falls down. Steve knows someone who would like him as a present and that's Green Puppy. He gets into the holiday bag one block at a time from top to bottom. Then, there's another toy who feels sad because he is different. He considers himself to be a pocket and Steve thinks Purple Kangaroo would like him. His sister has one, but he doesn't. The pocket feels happy and jumps into the holiday bag. After collecting three gifts for three of Blue's friends, they skidoo back home where Steve sees a clue on a blanket, but he can't get back home, and has to stay in Toyland for a few minutes. Steve sees that there's a clue on a blue spotted blanket too. He draws it in his notebook. He has two clues, but he still can't figure out what Blue wants to add to the holiday quilt. He needs to find the third clue. He gets the holiday bag ready and he skidoos back home. He puts on his mittens, hat, and scarf on.
Steve and Blue head outside, and it's starting to snow. They have to stop at three different houses. Their first stop is Green Puppy's house. They look through the window and see a tree. They also notice that Green and Wynonna are putting a star on the top. They think they're celebrating Christmas. They go up to the door. Steve rings the doorbell and Green and Wynonna come outside. Steve explains that they were delivering gifts, noticed their tree, and want to know what holiday they're celebrating. Green barks out Christmas. Steve wants to know what it's about. Wynonna explains that it's the time when the family gathers together and celebrates a very special birth. Steve thinks that it's like a special birthday. He has a present for Green. It's the green tower of blocks. He comes out and when he falls down on his own, Green laughs. Wynonna thinks he's the perfect present for Green because she enjoys knocking down blocks. They have a present for Steve and Blue. It's a Christmas patch that they can add to the holiday quilt. Green and Wynonna wave goodbye, say Happy Holidays, and the door closes.
Steve and Blue make their second stop to Orange Kitten's house. They notice that she and Sam are lighting candles. Steve wants to know what the candle holder is called. The viewers tell him it's a menorah. He also asks what holiday Sam and Orange are celebrating. The viewers tell him Hanukkah. Steve goes up to the door and rings the doorbell. Sam and Orange come outside. They tell them Happy Holidays. Blue and Orange hug. Steve and Blue watch Sam and Orange light the menorah and want to know what holiday they're celebrating. Orange tells them Hanukkah. Steve wants to know what it's about. Sam tells him that it's a holiday when eight candles are lit to remember a lamp that had enough oil to burn for one day. Orange finishes Sam's sentence saying that it lasted for eight whole days instead. Steve is amazed and thinks it was a miracle and that's the true meaning of Hanukkah, which celebrates the miracle of light. Steve and Blue have a present for Orange. It's the doll. She thanks Steve and Blue for her. Sam remembers that she and Orange made a gift for them. It's a Hanukkah patch. So far Steve and Blue have two holiday patches to add to the holiday quilt. They had one more gift to deliver. Sam and Orange wave goodbye to them, wish them Happy Holidays, and the door closes.
Steve and Blue make one more stop to Purple Kangaroo's house. They see that he's helping his owner set up a cup, corn, and candles on a mat on the table. Steve and Blue want to know what holiday they're celebrating. The viewers tell them Kwanzaa. Steve waves to Purple and his owner through the window. The door opens and they come outside. Steve is not sure if Purple's owner met the viewers at home. He said no and that his name is Tyrese. Steve and Blue want to know what holiday they're celebrating. Purple responds Kwanzaa. Tyrese explains that it's a celebration of being together and to help make their community strong. He and Purple have a gift for Steve and Blue. Steve wonders if it is a Kwanzaa patch and it is. Now it's time for Steve and Blue to give Purple a gift. It's the pouch. Now he has one of his own to put all of his things inside. Tyrese is most impressed and thinks he's a perfect gift for Purple. They wave goodbye to Steve and Blue.
As the door closes, it's Mailtime. Steve and Blue to hurry home fast. They head inside. Mailbox comes in through the window. Steve has to take his hat, scarf, and mittens off. After that, he sits in the thinking chair and is told that Mailbox has a letter for him and Blue. Steve mentions to him that he has a present for him. He opens the letter, which is from Blue's friend, Magenta, who slides on a sled down a snowy hill. After that, she barks "Happy Holidays Blue!" and "Bye!". Steve says "Happy Holidays" to her. After reading her letter, Mailbox comes back to show his flag warmer which is just what he wanted. He has a present for Steve. It's a rattle and without knowing it, he realizes that it's the third clue. He gets out the notebook and draws it. Now that he has all three clues, he's ready to sit in the thinking chair but then realizes he's already in it. Now, it's time for a clue review. Steve has to figure out what Blue wants to add to their holiday quilt. The clues are four little prints, a blue spotted blanket, and a rattle. Steve studies the third clue and asks who would use a rattle. The viewers tell him a baby. He also wants to know who made four little prints and had a blue-spotted blanket as a baby. The answer turns out to be Blue because when she was a baby, she made four little prints, had a blanket with blue spots, and shook her rattle. Steve just figured out Blue's Clues. She shows the patch of herself as a baby and adds it to the holiday quilt. Now it's time to share the patches with their friends at home. Tickety made one of herself with Grandfather Clock. Slippery made one of a holiday bubble snowman. Shovel and Pail made one of a snow castle. Steve tells them about the three different holiday patches. They are Christmas, Hanukkah, and Kwanzaa. Then it's time for some snowball cookies. After that, Steve thinks it was great to have the viewers celebrate the holidays with them. He sings the So Long Song and the episode ends.
