Brian Blessed, OBE (born October 9, 1936) is a classically trained English actor, writer and presenter who is widely known for his roles as Augustus in I, Claudius and King Vultan Of The Hawkmen in the 1980 feature film, Flash Gordon. He has a distinctive deep-belly laugh that likely suited him well for the role of Santa Claus, whom he has indeed voiced at least twice.
