Eeyore (pronounced /ˈiː.ɒr/ ( listen) EE-or) is a major character in the Winnie-the-Pooh books by A. A. Milne and their animated adaptations by The Walt Disney Company. He is generally characterized as a grey, gloomy, anthropomorphic, old stuffed donkey who is a friend of the title character, Winnie the Pooh. His name is a representation of the onomatopoeic phrase "hee-haw," which refers to the braying sound made by a normal donkey, written in the Cockney dialect, which is characterized by h dropping in addition to the usual British r dropping.

Appearances in Christmas specials[]

Winnie the Pooh[]

  • Christmas at Pooh Corner
  • Winnie the Pooh and Christmas Too - At the beginning of this 1991 special, Eeyore says to Christopher Robin that for Christmas, he wants an umbrella to keep the snow from falling on his house. Later, when the gang is rewriting the letter, Tigger suggests that what Eeyore really needs is a new, better house, while Eeyore raises the suggestion of honey pots for Pooh to 11. However, when the wind fails to blow the letter to the North Pole, Pooh tries bringing Eeyore a "mobile home" (in other words, stuffing him inside a suitcase). At the end of the special, Eeyore gets the umbrella he originally requested and admits that he's kind of glad to see that it works.
  • "The Wishing Tree"
  • My Friends Tigger & Pooh: Super Sleuth Christmas Movie - In this direct-to-video special spun off from My Friends Tigger & Pooh, Eeyore's greatest dream is to fly, and he gets to do so by joining Santa's reindeer in pulling Santa's sleigh.
