"Fame and Fortune" is a song written for the Rankin/Bass Christmas special Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. It was written to replace "We're a Couple of Misfits" in order to fit in the extended ending to the special. This song appeared in place of the original on the 1965-1997 televised prints, after which the "We're a Couple of Misfits" song was reinstated in 1998, including subsequent home media releases. However, in recent CBS airings, the "Fame and Fortune" footage is now used while a shortened version of "We're a Couple of Misfits" is played.
The sequence featuring the song was included as a bonus feature on Sony Wonder's first DVD release of the special in 2002, but oddly wasn't featured on any subsequent DVD or Blu-ray releases.
An extended version of "Fame And Fortune" appeared in the stage adaptation Rudolph: The Musical. In that adaptation, Yukon Cornelius sings the song along with Rudolph and Hermey.
Lyrics
Rudolph and Hermey: Fame and fortune, fame and fortune
We're off to seek them now
Anyone can have them both
It just takes the right know-how
Hermey: We put on our traveling shoes today
Rudolph: We won't stop until we find the way
Both: To fame and fortune, fame and fortune
They will be ours someday
Fame and fortune, fame and fortune
They will be ours someday!
