File:Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer- "Fame and Fortune"

"Fame and Fortune" is a song written for the Rankin/Bass Christmas special Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. It was written to replace "We're a Couple of Misfits" in order to fit in the extended ending to the special. This song appeared in place of the original on televised broadcasts, as well as on Family Home Entertainment's VHS releases, from 1965 to 1997, after which the "We're a Couple of Misfits" song was reinstated. However, in recent airings, the "Fame and Fortune" footage is now used when "We're a Couple of Misfits" is played.

The sequence featuring the song was included as a bonus feature on Sony Wonder's first DVD release of the special in 2002. Strangely, later DVD and Blu-ray releases (even the 50th Anniversary Edition) do not include the song.

Lyrics

Both: Fame and fortune, fame and fortune
We're off to seek them now
Anyone can have them both
It just takes the right know-how

Hermey: We put on our traveling shoes today
Rudolph: We won't stop until we find the way
Both: To fame and fortune, fame and fortune
They will be ours someday

Fame and fortune, fame and fortune
They will be ours someday!
