Fan (married name unknown; née Scrooge) was the younger sister of Ebenezer Scrooge and the mother of Fred in Charles Dickens' novel A Christmas Carol.

Growing up, Fan's father despised his son Ebenezer Scrooge for unknown reasons (in the 1951 film version, their father despises Ebenezer because he was the reason his mother died in childbirth). Fan later visited her older brother at his boarding school and took him home after she convinced their father to let Ebenezer leave the school behind forever.
Fan later married a man, and died giving birth to her son, Fred and Scrooge's resentment of his then-baby nephew grew.
