Grouchy Smurf (original French name Le Schtroumpf Grognon) is one of the main characters of The Smurfs comic books and cartoons. As his name suggests, he is the misanthropic grouch of the Smurf village. His catchphrase is "I hate (something somebody else mentions)" (or "Me, I don't like (something somebody else mentions)" in the 2021 cartoon) and he usually has a scowl on his face. In the comics and the 2021 cartoon, he was originally a normal Smurf, changed only when bitten by a Bzz fly. However, in the 1980s cartoon, he seems to have always have been a grouch. Despite his grouchiness, he has a soft spot for Baby Smurf and the Smurflings.

- The Smurfs: A Christmas Carol - Grouchy's most prominent role in a Christmas special was in this adaptation of A Christmas Carol, in which he, naturally, plays the Ebenezer Scrooge role. It is revealed in this special that Grouchy always wanted a hang glider for Christmas, but kept receiving Smurf hats.
