Hank the elf is a minor character from the Rankin/Bass animated television special Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. He is one of Santa Claus's elves, who is distinguished from the others in that he is the tallest elf and also wears glasses. He is seen prominently during the songs "We Are Santa's Elves" and "A Holly Jolly Christmas"; he sings the line "We don't like to brag" in the former, and in the latter song, he is seen tipping his hat at one of his female coworkers while carrying a stack of presents, which he then accidentally drops when he bumps into Donner. Although he is not a major character (nor even named onscreen) in the special, he was prominently featured alongside the Boss Elf and another elf in the television commercials and subsequent print ads produced for General Electric for the special's original broadcast.
The tall elf's name was revealed to be Hank in the 2001 direct-to-video sequel, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and the Island of Misfit Toys. When everyone in Santa's workshop is trying to figure out who stole all the toys they made, Hank speaks up and explains that he was up late reading a book the previous night when he saw The Toy Taker's blimp outside the window, though at that time, he thought he was just seeing things because he was feeling tired.
