"Hook's Christmas" is the Christmas episode of FOX's Peter Pan and the Pirates. The episode contains much dialogue and translated situations from the Charles Dickens novel A Christmas Carol, though the characters seem unaware of the novel or its story.
Synopsis
Hook believes that Christmas is a ridiculous waste of time. He trashes the pirates' celebration and shuts himself in his cabin for the remainder of the evening. That night, he is visited by the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future, each resembling someone he knows (Wendy for the Past, Smee for the Present, and his late brother Jasper Hook, aka Captain Patch, for Yet To Come). The ghosts offer Hook a chilling and sorry look at his past life and what lays in store for him if he does not embrace the spirit of the season. Hook is shown once again as he betrays and maims his own brother, condemns loyal Smee for a mutiny he tried to stop, and a time to come in which the Jolly Roger is left a grounded ruin that his former subordinates swarm and fight over like rats. In the end, his redemption seems at hand when he is repulsed further by that same future, where he is dead and gone and forgotten by all but a deranged Smee. After an exceedingly brief period of mourning, Peter Pan and his friends have moved on nicely and Peter does not even recall who he was when they find his hook. Despite Hook's pleas that he can change, when he awakes in the present, Hook merely resolves to redouble his efforts to destroy and bedevil Peter Pan, so to make certain he is never forgotten. As if to further mock the redemptive efforts of the spirits, Hook arms his men to the teeth for a Christmas raid against Peter Pan.
Notes
- Tim Curry, the voice of Captain Hook in this series, has often played Ebenezer Scrooge on-stage.
