"I Want a Cat" is the sixth Christmas-themed episode of the BBC Two literacy programme Words and Pictures, presented by Sophie Aldred.

The letter of the day is C and Sophie writes a Christmas card with cats on the front of it to her mum and has a toy car for her cousin as a present. Then: Sophie visits the RSPCA centre in Godstone where a girl named Rachel and her dad come to choose a cat. Then Sophie reads the featured story, "I Want a Cat" by Tony Ross, and shows the viewer a cold cut-out animated cat who needs to get warm with Magic Pencil writing the first letter of the words "cold cat". Finally Sophie wraps up the toy car and sings "Silent Night" with some children with candle lit lanterns and with Bob Foster on guitar.
