Lyrics
Young Scrooge: At last I'm making money
Now people work for me
Belle: But you are not as tender
as once you used to be
Scrooge: I built a wall of gold around us
that poverty cannot come through
Belle: You built a wall of gold between us
and I cannot come through to you
(Instrumental)
Belle: I've lost you to a gold piece, Goodbye.
Scrooge: That isn't so. I still love you. Don't leave me.
Belle: You left me years ago
Belle: You lost the beautiful tomorrow,
You really had a chance to win.
Our love has turned into a shadow,
Of happiness that might have been.
It might have been a warm and wonderful romance,
It might have been if you have given it a chance.
You held a ticket to enchanted lands,
Why did you let it slip right through your hands.
Scrooge: I might have known a life of happiness with you,
But love has flown, the wrong I've done I can't undo.
And now to late my bitter tears begin,
Because I know... it might have been.
It might have been a warm and wonderful romance, (It Might Have Been)
It might have been if I had given it a chance. (It Might Have Been)
I held a ticket to enchanted lands,
Belle: Why did you let it slip right through your hands.
Scrooge: I might have known a life of happiness with you, (I might have known)
But love has flown, the wrong I've done I can't undo. (But love has flown)
Both And now to late my bitter tears begin,
Because I know..... it might have been.
Rankin/Bass version
Belle: You lost the beautiful tomorrow,
You really had a chance to win.
Our love has turned into a shadow,
Of happiness that might have been.
It might have been a warm and wonderful romance,
It might have been if you have given it a chance.
You held a ticket to enchanted lands,
Why did you let it slip right through your hands.
Young Scrooge: I might have known a life of happiness with you,
But love has flown, the wrong I've done I can't undo.
And now to late my bitter tears begin,
Because I know.....
Both: It might have been.
