Little Gobie - Trailer

Official trailer

Once upon a time, in a land full of hoverboards and pet dragons, there lived a little boy called Gobie, who was always getting into mischievous trouble. Gobie loved adventure and excitement, and all things that zoomed around at top speed. And he also loved his twin dragons, BeBe and Kuma. And he loved playing tricks on them, because they didn't share his love for excitement and speed. Gobie loved Christmas, because it was a time of presents; and snow; and skiing. But then one Christmas, Gobie had the adventure of a lifetime.

Little Gobie (or Little Gobie 3D; also completely known as Little Gobie and the Big Christmas Adventure for the U.S. marketing campaign) is a 2010 3D CGI Christmas movie. Distributed in the U.S. by The Weinstein Company, and utilizing Autodesk DEC & ICE technologies [1], it was their animated feature to be distributed on DVD by Arc Entertainment.

Synopsis[]

This story is told through narration by a Santa Claus/reindeer named Old Nic. A young reindeer named Gobie is addicted to adventure and thrills and his pet dragons, BeBe and Kuma. One day, during the holidays, he decides to go on a thrilling ride on his hoverboard, and despite his pets' objections, takes BeBe along with him. Gobie's ride takes him over a roller coaster and through a sledding course before coming to a park that's been closed for renovations. Despite the warning signs, Gobie decides to take a shortcut through the park. This results in an accident which gets BeBe seriously injured and placed in a stasis tube in the hospital.

Feeling responsible, Gobie wonders if BeBe can be saved. Gobie's grandfather tells him that if one tells their wish to see Santa Claus before Christmas Day, their wish will come true. Determined to save BeBe, Gobie sets out with Kuma at his side. Before he goes, Gobie's grandfather gives him a magic bulb, saying it will come in handy. Since Christmas Day is not far off, Gobie and Kuma hurry, always traveling due north.

One night, in a giant mushroom patch, Gobie happens upon Old Nic, an elderly reindeer. Nic tells Gobie that he is on his way to Santaland, and Gobie asks if he can tag along. But when a bunch of dog farmers happen upon the group (the mushroom patch is actually private property), a chase ensues which ends up with Gobie and Nic crashing through the front gates of a strange mansion. The place is home to Doso, a very busy turtle on a tight schedule. Doso operates a factory wherein Astro Fish are hatched.

When the machine malfunctions, Doso turns to Gobie and Nic for help. She promises to show the way to Santaland if they can hatch the eggs so she doesn't fall behind. While Doso is making repairs, Gobie manually hatches the Astro Fish eggs. But one of the newborn fish seems to be lost, and Gobie finds out the fish has blurred vision. Digging around through some junk, Kuma finds a pair of goggles, which they use to correct the baby fish's vision. The little fish is released into the ocean just as the bell rings to signal the end of the work day.

The next morning, Doso sends Nic, Gobie and Kuma off on the river, knowing it will take them towards Santaland. But along the way, they encounter a swift current, and Nic manages to save Gobie before he falls into the icy water. Later on, a monstrous fish attacks, swallowing Nic whole and knocking Gobie into the river. But a pod of Astro Whales (summoned by the autistic fish from earlier) appear and defeat the monster. The travelers thank the whales for saving their lives.

After entering what seems to be an enormous clock tower, Gobie, Kuma and Nic happen upon a most peculiar hourglass. The hourglass displays a message about finding a key to a device called the "Flying Fan". Ascending a very long staircase, the travelers find themselves in Sweetie City, a place made out of sweets and inhabited by walking doughnuts. Gobie spots a little angel holding the key they have sought, but she proves to be very swift and they end up losing sight of her. Gobie loses his grandfather's magic bulb when a bunch of doughnuts roll down the street, but a little doughnut finds it and Gobie takes it back.

Nic sits down for a while and tells Gobie that he'll disappear if he doesn't find Santa Claus by midnight on Christmas Eve. Suddenly, the angel appears again, saying that Gobie has to catch her first. Nic tells Gobie to go after the angel while he stays behind. The chase leads Gobie to a fairground, where the giant Ferris wheel accidentally breaks loose. Gobie shields the angel with his body, though his hoverboard ends up broken. The angel hands the key to Gobie, but tells him that time is short. The little doughnut from before tags along.

Gobie and company reach the exit, whereupon Nic shows up. Upon unlocking the castle door, Gobie finds himself looking at an endless void filled with odd colorful balloons. The group is sucked in and bounced onto a floating piece of ground leading up to a lighthouse. Nic tests the wobbly steps first before they all walk on them. Nic steps on a step which gives way beneath him. Not wanting to go without Nic, Gobie follows - just as the hourglass runs out.

A sudden flash of white, and the group suddenly finds themselves inside the lighthouse. The hourglass suddenly appears, and the all the sand has gone back to the top. The little angel appears before Gobie, telling him how he has proven the unity and loyalty of his team. Everyone boards the Flying Fan, and they all continue the journey towards Santaland. However, Gobie isn't sure that they are headed in the right direction, and at this point, the magic bulb begins to glow. The bulb emanates a beam of green light, and Nic deduces that the bulb is showing the way to its origins - in short, the way to Santaland.

Gobie wakes up from a vivid dream about BeBe, and finds that night has fallen. As Gobie spots Santaland in the distance, a storm breaks out. The Flying Fan starts taking damage from the storm, and the crew is forced to eject. They end up landing in a post office, where pink elephants and blue insects handle all the presents and Christmas cards. However, the group is discovered by the Postmaster - a giant dragon - and he's none too thrilled to see them. Kuma and the doughnut fight against the Postmaster with a giant doughnut robot. The robot defeats the Postmaster by covering him in chocolate and then gives Gobie and the others a toss towards Santaland.

When Gobie arrives in the town center, he finds there's no one around. Santa is nowhere in sight, either. What's more, Nic has started to fade away. Believing that his quest has ended in failure, Gobie throws the magic bulb to the ground. The bulb then finds its way onto the the big Christmas tree in the center and the decorations illuminate the tree. The spirit of the tree thanks Gobie for returning his missing bulb, and grants Gobie a wish as a reward. Gobie wishes for BeBe and Nic to get better, but nothing happens. Nic tells Gobie that he can only have one wish, and that saving BeBe is more important. Nic then fades away completely, and Gobie starts bargaining as he starts crying.

When Gobie's fallen tear hits the ground, something unexpected happens. It is revealed that Nic is really Santa Claus, and he wanted to be sure that Gobie was serious about saving BeBe. Since Gobie has learned a lesson about facing the consequences and owning up to his mistakes, Santa grants Gobie his wish. BeBe is restored to normal, and everyone celebrates. Since Santa is a bit behind schedule, Gobie - along with Kuma, BeBe, and the doughnut - help him out in delivering presents.

Gobie learned his lesson that day. So, if you fix your mistakes, and care for others the way you would care for yourself, your wishes can come true, too.
