Peppermint Patty and Marcie in "Happiness is Holiday Traditions".
Marcie is a character from the comic strip Peanuts by Charles Schulz, introduced in the strip in 1971. She is a kind-hearted intellectual young girl who is best friends with Peppermint Patty, whom she often addresses as "Sir", much to her annoyance. She also has a not-so-secret crush on Charlie Brown, who she calls "Charles", but he unfortunately never seems to notice her affections.
Appearances in Christmas specials[]
- "The Play" - This segment from an episode of The Charlie Brown and Snoopy Show adapts the 1984 storyline in which Marcie is cast to play Mary in the Nativity pageant, a role that Peppermint Patty (who instead has to play a sheep) had wanted to play herself.
- It's Christmastime Again, Charlie Brown - In the early half of this 1992 special, Marcie attempts to help Peppermint Patty with the book report she's supposed to be writing during Christmas vacation, but her efforts to be fruitless. (The original comic strip storyline ended with Marcie realizing that, because she had spent so much time trying to stop Patty from procrastinating, she herself ironically never got around to doing her book report, but this part of the story isn't adapted for the special.) After this, the two girls attend a performance of George Frideric Handel's Messiah; when Marcie tries to stand up during the "Hallelujah" chorus, her seat folds in on her. The above-mentioned storyline about her playing Mary in the pageant is adapted again later in the special.
