Operation: Secret Santa is a short film spun off from Prep & Landing, originally aired on Tuesday, December 7, 2010, right after A Charlie Brown Christmas on ABC. It received that year's Primetime Emmy Award for Short-format Animation.
Synopsis
Wayne and Lanny, now partners, are called by Magee to meet with a secret contact – Mrs. Claus, who sends them on a new mission to retrieve a box from Santa's secret workshop. Later they sneak into Santa's office while he is asleep, using their high-tech equipment from the first special. Lanny’s expertise at dressing the tree enables them to enter the hidden workshop where they recover the box and escape just in time. Mrs Claus reveals the contents of the box to be the last part of the first toy that Santa ever made, and gives the complete toy back to him as his Christmas present.
Availability
The short made its home video debut as a bonus feature on the first DVD release of the original Prep & Landing special, put out by Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment on November 22, 2011. It was included as a bonus feature again on the Prep & Landing Totally Tinsel Collection DVD and Blu-ray, released on November 6, 2012. It was also featured on the Walt Disney Animation Studios Short Films Collection DVD and Blu-ray, released on August 18, 2015.
Trivia
Noel (on the far right) makes an "early bird cameo".
- Wayne's brother Noel, who is prominently featured in Prep & Landing: Naughty vs. Nice, makes a cameo at the end of the short.
