Rocko Wallaby Rama (his last name was only given in a concept sketch by creator Joe Murray) is the main character of the Nickelodeon animated series Rocko's Modern Life. He is an anthropomorphic wallaby who emigrated from Australia to the United States. Sensible, moral, and somewhat timid, he enjoys the simple pleasures in life, such as doing his laundry or feeding his dog, Spunky. Rocko would prefer to live a quiet life, but his reckless friends often throw him into turbulent situations. Although personally hygienic, Rocko has an almost pathological tendency to neglect his living space. Rocko enjoys collecting comic books and likes rainbows. Jean Prescott of The Sun Herald described Rocko as a "pudgy little wallaby" who tries to "do what's right" and is devoted to his friends Heffer Wolfe and Filburt Turtle as well as his dog Spunky.
Common Sense Media reviewer Andrea Graham described Rocko as "paranoid and obsessed with cleanliness" and that he initially perceives his neighbors to be "loud and messy." Graham describes Rocko as accepting of his neighbors' faults and seeing the positive qualities within them; unfortunately, that has also led him to becoming a bit of a doormat in the eyes of others (no matter how many times a person wrongs him, he always forgives them, despite knowing they will wrong him again in the future). In an early character profile presented to the networks Murray described Rocko as "a young anthropomorphic Woody Allen, who has just moved away from his home into a surrealistic world."
As the main character of the series, Rocko is the protagonist of the Christmas special, "Rocko's Modern Christmas!: Can't Squeeze Cheer From a Cheese Log!"
