Ronald William Howard (born March 1, 1954) is an American director, producer, screenwriter, and actor. He first gained national attention for his role as Opie Taylor on The Andy Griffith Show and later became famous as Richie Cunningham on Happy Days. In 1980, he left Happy Days to focus on directing, producing, and writing a variety of films and television shows.
