Santa's Apprentice (L'Apprenti Père Noël) is a 2010 French-Australian co-production adaptation, produced by Gaumont-Alphanim and Avrill Stark Entertainment with Cartoon Saloon, Flying Bark Productions, Gaumont, the Orange Cinéma Séries and the CNC/Irish Film Board, and developed with the support of Creative Europe MEDIA. Based on the original idea, characters and designs created by Jan Van Rijsselberct, it was acquired for the U.S. adaptation by The Weinstein Company. It was officially selected as one of ten feature films, and won the special UNICEF award at the 2011 Annecy Festival.

In this rebooted prequel to the animated series SantApprentice, Santa doesn't want to retire, but rules are rules and he must train someone to replace him. The lucky winner, to be chosen from among millions of children, must be named Nicholas, be an open and have a pure heart. On the other side of the planet, there is a little boy who is a perfect match, but his luck of self-confidence and fear of heights make him a poor contentment. Will Santa agree to step down, and help his apprentice take his place?
