Synopsis[]
On December 24, 1843, a jolly man named Harry Huffman celebrates Christmas Eve singing with the people and everyone shares his joy for Christmas, except his uncle, Ebenezer Scrooge, Scrooge is a bitter, greedy and selfish old man who only cares about money, Scrooge hated Christmas and he only cared about working, the only one close to him was his dog Prudence, Scrooge met Harry but Scrooge manages to evade him long enough to decline giving any money to a charity and add in a debt owed to him by the local toy shop owner Tom Jenkins, who can barely afford medical treatment for his frail mother. After returning to his counting house, he rudely declines an invitation to a Christmas dinner party from Harry and reluctantly lets his clerk, Bob Cratchit, take the day off for Christmas the next day. Bob is underpaid by Scrooge and lives in poverty with his wife Ethel and their many children, including Tiny Tim, who is seriously ill and cannot receive medical treatment due to being unable to afford it. Scrooge closes up for the night and he and Prudence go home as Scrooge sings about his exasperation with Christmas ("Tell Me").
Once he gets home, he is soon haunted by the spirit of his former business partner and friend, Jacob Marley, (died December 24, 1836), Marley was equal to Scrooge when he was alive and when he died he was punished for his greed and condemned to wander carrying a long and heavy chain that he himself forged in life and had the size of his greed and if Scrooge did not change his way of being, his destiny would be worse than Marley's and would have a chain would be even bigger, damned spirits appeared and Marley said that he and all of them were like Scrooge, trapped in their own selfish worlds, they never helped other people in life and condemned them to do so in death, they had observed Scrooge for days and watched their chain get bigger and bigger, but Marley got Scrooge a salvation, the visit of three visitors, Marley told Scrooge to listen to the visitors and become a better man before it was too late.
Once Scrooge is about to go to bed, he encounters the first visitor, a wax-like shape-shifting being called Past, who proceeds to take him through his life before present where he was forced to work in a factory on Christmas Day as a child due to his father being in a Debtors Prison and being visited by his younger sister Jen (who died in childbirth giving birth to Harry), when he was a young man and worked for a kind-hearted businessman named Mr. Fezziwig and was once engaged to his daughter Isabel ("Happiness") before Jacob Marley partnered with him for a more financially-increased job and Isabel left him when she witnesses Scrooge and Marley shut down a baker family's shop (the baker is revealed to be Bob Cratchit's father) and him focusing more on his business than her ("Later Never Comes"). Scrooge insists it was because both he and Isabel needed to be financially secure before they could be married, but clearly expresses regret for pushing her away. Before vanishing, Past tells Scrooge to remember his past and learn from it.
Past disintegrates and Scrooge travels through time, Scrooge then meets the next visitor, a joyful giant called Present, who wants to show Scrooge how to live life ("I Like Life"). He shows Scrooge how Harry will spend Christmas. Harry loves his uncle due to being told of the kindness of Scrooge's sister Jen. He then is shown how the Cratchit family will spend Christmas in their small home and poor health, but go forth in life with happiness, even Bob toasts Scrooge (despite being a complete bitter and miser), the Cratchit family is grateful for what they have, especially Tiny Tim, ("The Beautiful Day"), despite being seriously ill he maintains his happiness. When Scrooge asks Present about Tim's fate, Present replies saying that he would have to ask the next visitor.
Scrooge travels through time and Present's body turns into Yet to Come's, Scrooge is struck by the fact that Yet to Come did not speak and tells him that Past and Present liked to talk (more than Scrooge would have liked), so Yet to Come shows Scrooge what would happen to him if he didn't change his attitude: a future in which a crowd led by Tom Jenkins celebrated that Scrooge was dead and They are grateful, Scrooge does not know that they are celebrating that he had died and thinks they are praising him, but soon Prudence finds Scrooge's coffin and the people begin to celebrate, thanking Scrooge ("Thank You Very Much").
Yet to Come takes Scrooge to the cemetery during the night and finds Bob and Kathy devastated at the grave of Tiny Tim who had died from his illness, Scrooge remembers when Bob wanted to ask him for money to pay for Tim's treatment but he refused to do so because of his greed and feels guilty, Bob holds Tim's cross tightly and starts to cry, Kathy starts to cry too and even Scrooge starts to cry too, Bob promises Tim to come see him the next day, wishes him to rest and leaves with Kathy, Scrooge approaches Tim's grave and regrets not having done anything to help him, he feels sorry for Tim and asks Yet to Come to tell him that if he really changed he could save Tim from death, then Tom arrives at the cemetery with another man and a cart in which they carry Scrooge's coffin, Scrooge, Prudence and Yet to Come go to see and Scrooge's coffin is thrown into his grave (the tombstone is shrouded in fog and the name cannot be seen), Tom mentions that there is no need to wait to see if anyone comes to Scrooge's funeral since no one cares, except an old Prudence, Tom mocks Scrooge and leaves, then the fog clears and Scrooge sees that the tombstone has writing on it "Ebenezer Scrooge", then Scrooge realizes that all the time people were celebrating that he was dead and that no one cared to attend his funeral, then Scrooge sees his own ghost come out of his grave being chained with a gigantic chain and Scrooge sees that if he does not change his attitude he will be condemned to this punishment in Hell, Yet to Come begins to approach Scrooge and he begs to be able to return and says that he doesn't want to end up like a man whose death people celebrate, then Scrooge sees Tim's grave and pleads that if he can't save himself that he can at least save Tim, Scrooge is chained and dragged to his grave and begs Yet to Come to tell him that he can still erase Tim's name from the cross and break the chain but then Yet to Come disappears and Scrooge falls to his grave.
Scrooge wakes up in his room the next morning, he has fully repented his greedy ways and proceeds to spread joy to his associates like having the street urchins send out orders and invitations. With his place decorated for a Christmas party with everyone in attendance, he gives Harry a doll that Jen once made him, makes Cratchit his business partner, gives a donation to the charity workers, and erases Tom's debt. He also promises Tiny Tim that he will be able to seek medical help with his father's pay rise. Scrooge then celebrates Christmas with his new assortment of companions ("I'll Begin Again").
