Shrek is the titular character of the children's book Shrek! and its film adaptations by DreamWorks Animation. He is a large, green, physically intimidating ogre who lives in a swamp. In the film, he is introduced as an unsociable hermit who eventually befriends Donkey and embarks on a quest to save Princess Fiona from the castle in which she was confined.
