"Stealing the Spotlight" is a Christmas-themed episode of the adult animated webseries Happy Tree Friends, produced and aired as the twenty-third episode of its second season.

Synopsis[]

Lumpy wakes up on a winter morning around Christmastime, admiring his shoddy, barely-fictional Christmas lights that are strewn about his trailer. However, upon seeing Pop and Cub setting up much better lights on their house, Lumpy gets jealous and goes back inside to plot.

Over at Pop and Cub's house, Pop accidentally injures Cub while working, hitting him on the back of the head with a ladder and knocking a tooth out. Terrified and unsure what to do, Pop grabs a hammer and forces the tooth back in, though Cub is oblivious to his shoddy job.

Lumpy begins setting up a strand of Christmas lights when Nutty comes along. Mistaking the lights for candy, Nutty begins swallowing the strand. When Lumpy pulls on the lights, he unknowingly rips Nutty's intestines and guts out. Lumpy finishes putting up the lights, unaware of the bloody body parts running along the strand.

Meanwhile, Pop is hammering nails into his roof to hold the lights when the bucket falls off the roof and onto Cub's head. After checking his son and trying not to vomit from the bloody sight, Pop is forced to pull the nails out of his poor son's face, and has to hammer one down that will not come out.

Afterwards, Pop and Cub plug in their lights, creating a colorful spectacle that the neighbors come to admire. Lumpy, however, gets even more jealous, and goes and finds every light he can and straps it to his house, including cars, neon signs, televisions, lamps, spotlights, and a miniature lighthouse. He turns them on, and the light is so intense that it incinerates all the neighbors and even forces the blind Mole to cover his eyes. Pop and Cub boil, Toothy is turned to dust, and Lumpy's eyes melt, leaving only the Mole alive to give a flaming thumbs-up.

The moral is revealed at the end to be "Look on the bright side of life!"
