As Doze Badaladas dos Sinos de Natal is a Christmas special of Turma da Mônica that aired in 2011 on TV Globo, being the second Christmas special to air on the channel in the early 2010s, following Linda Noite de Natal which aired the previous year. The story is an adaptation of a comic book originally written by Emerson Abreu in December 2000 for the Cebolinha comic book, but with many changes from the original comic book story.

Synopsis[]

The story begins with Cebolinha excited for Christmas while he decorates the tree and waits for his father. Mônica appears asking where her stuffed bunny was, accusing Cebolinha of having stolen it. Then Cascão appears dirtier than usual after running away from Mônica's dog, accidentally revealing that he had stolen Mônica's bunny. Then Magali appears throwing a tantrum because her mother wouldn't let her eat Christmas dinner before midnight. Cebolinha, discouraged by his friends' attitude on Christmas Eve, decides to get them in order and encourage them to be more positive, which leads the four to present a series of musicals about Christmas. After the songs, Cebolinha tells his friends that at midnight the Christmas bells will ring twelve times, making people feel the Christmas spirit and enter into peace and harmony. After a sudden fight, the four apparently heard the twelve rings of the Chrismas bells making them get into peace without realizing that the sound was actually from the doorbell that Cebolinha's father was ringing.

At the end it is shown that the characters were at the cinema watching the story and they come across Mauricio de Sousa who presents them with another musical.

Notes[]

  • The story has many changes from the original comic book version, including the narrative trying to be more cheerful and positive, as opposed to the more aggressive and slapstick nature of the comic. Furthermore, the story is longer because of the musicals.
  • Notably, the special features scenes and character designs recycled from previous episodes of Turma da Mônica.
  • In the last song, Mônica is seen giving her stuffed bunny to a girl on the street, but this scene is not canonical considering that in other stories Mônica keeps him even after she grows up.
