Wikia's Entertainment Team Put together this list of the Top 10 Christmas Specials of all time. Do you agree? Did we leave one off the list? Make sure to check out the 2009 Christmas Specials TV Schedule.
UPDATE (12/14/09): Due to recent circumstances (to be more exact, one of these specials having not yet aired when I made this list), I've made a few changes to this Top 10 list. Maybe in the future, I'll include more by making this into a Top 25 Christmas Specials list, but for now, here's 10 of my favorites.
Picture | Name | Description |
---|---|---|
Christmas Every Day! (Fairly OddParents) (christmas-specials.wikia.com) |
Timmy Turner and his fairy godparents' first Yuletide adventure has been something I've watched every December since I first recorded it in 2002, though recent circumstances (*cough*Wishology*cough*) have forced me to give this special a rather low spot in this countdown. It's still pretty much my favorite version of the "Christmas Every Day" story, though. | |
A Pinky and the Brain Christmas (christmas-specials.wikia.com) |
Pinky and the Brain may not be able to conquer the world or even this countdown, but this Emmy-winning special does present the series' tear-jerking Crowning Moment of Heartwarming. Truly, The WB should've kept running this every year for the rest of its run. Maybe then this special would show up on a lot more Christmas special countdowns. | |
A Garfield Christmas Special (christmas-specials.wikia.com) |
Say what you will about Garfield these days, but there's no denying that he was at his peak in the 1980s, and his prime-time Christmas special shows it. Though I do find it odd that Garfield complains about having to always visit Jon's family every Christmas when they only did it once in the strip (years after the special had aired), there's no mistaking that the little lesson he gives us at the end is one we can all take to heart. | |
Rocko's Modern Christmas (christmas-specials.wikia.com) |
The Rocko's Modern Life Christmas special is another one of those specials that never seems to get on anyone's Top Christmas specials list when it clearly deserves to be on one. Yes, it's got silliness, as you'd expect from a 1990s Nicktoon, but like with Pinky and the Brain, the Crowning Moment of Heartwarming is put on full display here. | |
How the Grinch Stole Christmas! (christmas-specials.wikia.com) |
"You're a mean one, Mr. Grinch!" And though he may be that, his story certainly isn't a bad one. | |
It's a Wonderful Tiny Toon Christmas Special (christmas-specials.wikia.com) |
"No toon is a failure who has friends!" This is perhaps the first version I ever saw of the It's a Wonderful Life story, and it's probably also my favorite. | |
A Muppet Family Christmas (christmas-specials.wikia.com) |
Any Muppet TV special that can get the characters from The Muppet Show, Sesame Street, AND Fraggle Rock all under one roof is something that definitely needs to be seen by anyone who has ever been into puppetry. If there's only one Muppet Christmas special that you have time to watch, make it this one. It's just a shame, though, that those danged music rights (and the fact that Disney now owns one-third of this special's cast) have prevented the full special from being made available on video (unless you live in the UK). | |
Phineas and Ferb Christmas Vacation! (christmas-specials.wikia.com) |
It might be a bit of a cheat that I've put a very recent special in my Top 3, but this Christmas special based on what is clearly the Disney Channel's best current show presents one of the best stories of the series, with some great new songs for us to listen to every December. | |
A Charlie Brown Christmas (christmas-specials.wikia.com) |
"That's what Christmas is all about, Charlie Brown."
In any other Christmas specials countdown, this would probably make the #1 spot, but this is my countdown, and there's a personal favorite of mine that I just have to put at #1. So, somewhat rather fittingly for the character, Charlie Brown will have to do with #2 here. | |
The Town Santa Forgot (christmas-specials.wikia.com) |
A greedy boy learns the spirit of Christmas when Santa delivers his requested toys to a town that shares his name. Why does no one else put this special on their Top Whatever Number Christmas specials lists?! This is probably the best holiday special that Hanna-Barbera ever made! I find it appalling that Warner Home Video has not given this special a Deluxe Edition DVD & Blu-ray release. As Linus would put it, this special needs a little more love. |
