"White Christmas" is the fourth Christmas episode of the ABC sitcom Modern Family, produced as the eleventh episode, but aired as the ninth one of the show's seventh season.
As Christmas approaches, the whole family and Andy go in a mountain that Gloria rented to another family in order to celebrate her first Christmas as an American citizen. However, nothing happens like they thought.
First, there isn't a single snowflake as they arrive, and instead they suffer from strong warm. Then, Fig Wilson, a relative to the family who let Gloria rent the mountain shows up apparently forgotten by her relatives and Cameron invites her to stay with them despite the fact that she is very unpleasant and pessimistic. Alex fears that she might be like her in the future and begins to behave like a nice person, but fails. At the same time, Cameron and Mitchell’s Christmas song was spoiled the last year due to Mitchell's state who was totally intoxicated. They plan to sing it perfectly this time, but are constantly interrupted by minor incidents until Fig and Alex sing it instead of them, making them upset.
Jay has a announce to make. He decides to retire. Claire hopes to be his successor, but Jay decides to give the company to Chuck Finney instead. Jay reveals in private to Gloria that it’s a test and there’s no Chuck Finney, but Claire truly believes that Finney is a real person and is very mad at her dad.
Luke and Manny decide to trick and manipulate Lily by letting her believe that a forgotten boy is in a room since many years. Though Lily remains skeptical, she discovers that Haley and Andy make out in a room. This makes Phil very angry and he gives Andy an ultimatum.
He has to tell Beth that he does not want to be with her anymore or leave the house. Andy chooses the first option, since Gloria surprised him with Beth's coming. But before he can speak, Beth tells him that their romance is over, because she cheated on him with two other guys. This saddens Andy until Gloria reminds him how lucky he is to have Haley as his girlfriend. As Jay and Claire make amends, the snow finally falls from the sky, Joe is the only one not to notice that it’s actually ashes from a forest fire.
