Christmas Specials Wiki

Wile Ethelbert Coyote (also known simply as "The Coyote") and The Road Runner are a pair of cartoon characters created by Chuck Jones in 1949 for the Looney Tunes shorts produced for Warner Bros. In each cartoon featuring the characters, the Coyote uses absurdly complex contraptions (usually purchased from the Acme corporation) and elaborate plans to try to capture and eat the Road Runner, but he always fails at this task. The Road Runner typically never says anything except "Beep beep!", though older comic books depicted him as speaking in rhyme. Wile E. was mostly a silent character, with the notable exceptions of a few cartoons in which he battled Bugs Bunny and referred to himself as a "super genius".

Appearances in Christmas specials

The pair's most prominent role in a Christmas production was in "Freeze Frame", the middle segment of the 1979 compilation special Bugs Bunny's Looney Christmas Tales. In this short, Wile E. reads that road runners can be easily caught in snow drifts and attempts to use this knowledge to his advantage. When using an Acme Little Giant Snow-Cloud Seeder doesn't work for him, he tricks the Road Runner into traveling to a snowy summit. Unfortunately for the Coyote, catching the Road Runner in the snowy mountains proves to be no easier than in the desert.

In Bah, Humduck! A Looney Tunes Christmas, the Coyote and the Road Runner both appear as employees for Daffy Duck's Lucky Duck Super Store.
