Yosemite Sam is a cartoon character created by Friz Freleng for the Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies animated shorts produced by Warner Bros. Animation. Debuting in the 1945 cartoon Hare Trigger, he is commonly depicted as an extremely grouchy cowboy with a hair-trigger temper and an intense hatred of rabbits, particularly Bugs Bunny. Although best known for his role as a Western outlaw, Sam also battled Bugs with various other occupations, such as a prison guard, a pirate, and a Roman guard captain.
Appearances in Christmas specials[]
- Bugs Bunny's Looney Christmas Tales - Sam appears prominently in this 1979 compilation special, particularly in the first segment, "Bugs Bunny's Christmas Carol", where he portrays the role of Ebenezer Scrooge. Sam plays up the character's cruelty by firing Bob Cratchit (played by Porky Pig) and foreclosing on his house, forcing him and his family to move out by midnight on Christmas Eve. In response, Bugs annoys Sam with a series of his usual pranks and then, as the "Ghost of Christmas", scares him into performing Scrooge's change of heart.
- Bah, Humduck! A Looney Tunes Christmas - When Looney Tunes did another take on A Christmas Carol in this 2006 direct-to-video movie, in which the Ebenezer Scrooge role was instead given to Daffy Duck, Sam was cast as the Ghost of Christmas Present.
